Volunteering with the Cedar Valley Humane Society is an excellent way to make a positive difference for homeless animals. We always have opportunities for volunteers and have a variety of volunteer positions to choose. You’re assured of finding at least one that matches your skills and interests, whether its socializing dogs or cats, helping at a special event, providing a temporary foster home for a special needs animal, or small projects that can be completed at home.
Becoming a volunteer is easy. The first step is to fill out a volunteer application. You may submit your application online. After your application has been approved, the next step is to attend a volunteer orientation. For details on the next volunteer orientation, check out our Events Calendar.
To work with our animals, volunteers must physically be able to enter and exit the kennels in a safe manner and have the ability to understand and comprehend Cedar Valley Humane Society rules and policies for their own safety and the safety of the animals.
Volunteers can be as young as eight years old. A volunteer must be 16 to handle an animal by herself/himself. For volunteers 8 to 15 years of age, opportunities also include activities at the shelter and those that can be accomplished at home.
Volunteers younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult volunteer, at least 18 years of age, at all times. The adult volunteer also needs to have completed orientation and any subsequent training with their minor partner.
